As part of our junior faculty mentorship program, from time to time, we have a dinner meeting with a prominent academician to give general advice on how to best succeed in academic medicine, run a lab, get funded, etc. This program is supported by a fund established in the memory of Dr. Melvin Glimcher. An esteemed physician scientist, Dr. Glimcher was a professor emeritus at Harvard Medical School and a former chief of orthopedic surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital and Children's Hospital.
Our first "Meet the Professor Dinner" took place on May 15 and featured Dr. Augustine Choi, chair of our department of medicine. Dr. Choi is a world class clinician and scientist with hundreds of publications, and extensive NIH funding and administrative experience.
