Babak Navi Program

Babak B. Navi, M.D., M.S.
Assistant Professor of Neurology
Assistant Professor of Neuroscience, BMRI
Associate Director of the Clinical and Translational Neuroscience Unit

My Mission

I am an academic neurologist with specialty training in stroke and clinical research, particularly epidemiological research. As a member of the Brain and Mind Research Institute, I conduct clinical trials, observational studies, and meta-analyses in order to advance our understanding of the risk factors and mechanisms of vascular disease in the brain. My primary research interest is the relationship between stroke and cancer—two common and morbid diseases with immense pubic health impacts.

Goals

My short-term goals are to determine why patients with cancer suffer stroke and how to best treat these patients to prevent recurrent stroke. I also plan to determine what the effects of cancer type, stage, and treatments are on patients’ stroke risk.

My long-term goal is to reduce the incidence and burden of stroke in patients with cancer. I plan to do this by elucidating the complex relationship between stroke and cancer, which will enable the identification and targeted treatment of cancer patients at high risk for stroke.
